FEELING NERVOUS

You can be nervous and still get started.

The car behind. The hill ahead. The fear of getting something wrong with someone watching. Tell Dexter which bit worries you. A useful first conversation starts there.

Name the part that feels difficult

“I am nervous” can mean a lot of different things. You might worry about traffic, feel uncomfortable with a new instructor or be returning after an unpleasant lesson. A few honest details help Dexter understand what you need. You do not have to explain it perfectly.

Less to juggle in an automatic

Removing clutch control and manual gear changes can give you more room to concentrate on the road. It does not remove every challenge, and it does not mean you have to feel confident immediately. You still build observation, positioning and decision-making through practice.

Ask for an explanation that works for you

Some people want to hear the plan before trying it. Others need something explained a different way after a first attempt. Say which helps you. Dexter is calm and patient; the aim is a lesson where you can ask questions instead of trying to hide that something has not clicked.

A better next lesson, not a promise about a test date

Nobody can sensibly promise how many lessons you will need after reading a message. Start with where you are now. Discuss what you would like to feel more comfortable doing and review that as you learn. Small improvements are useful evidence, even on a day that feels hard.
